40 Jahre VLAY

Materials

Plastics of all kinds, naturally.  As well as  wood.  And light alloys and stainless steel.

We have always been able to explore a large number of materials, which we used to bring plastic in form. This understanding enabled us to process wood or aluminum in addition to plastic – with the same devotion to the material and the project of our customer. Thus our attitude also maintains its form.

Spain. England. Czech Republic. Germany.
It almost reads like the semi-finals of the European football championship.

Only those who make the correct decisions at the beginning will take the lead in the end.  Since there is no way around the selection of the best raw materials, Vlay co-operates exclusively with renowned producers, who can guarantee the utmost quality of your product.

A few words about working with a drill that doesn’t exist.

When our customers come to us with seemingly unsolvable tasks, we break new ground.  If a certain kind of tool does not exist anywhere in the world, we modify it accordingly.  Making things possible simply lies in our nature.

Ideas

If one works on a product 40 years, how good will it then be?

With its 16 employees and/or specialists, Vlay is a small company. However, that is precisely what helps us concentrate on preserving our core competency: bringing plastic in form.  Supporting and accompanying our customers with the implementation of their ideas in a team with direct approaches and great commitment.

We could not improve the audiocassette, however we help sell them better.

This, too, is part of our history: At the end of August 1963, the first music cassette was introduced, ten years later Adolf Vlay founded his company. A few years later he decided to find a better way to present the audio cassettes with considerable success. From that point on things took off. Audio cartridges have since almost disappeared. However we are still bringing plastic in top form. Media changes, our attitude remains.

Question: who works for the carpenter, who works for “the Italian fashion designer?”

Milan, Via Montenapoleone – the heart of fashion, the superlative shopping street.  Naturally when it comes to shop fittings, only the best of the best get a chance here.  This includes a carpenter from Burgenland.  And where the know-how of that carpenter ends, is where the “high fashion” adventure begins for Vlay. We find the results very chic.

Forms

Whether some products are cheaper elsewhere? Let’s put it this way:  some products don’t exist elsewhere.

Over 40 years the search for unusual solutions has always led us to new discoveries.  As well as to projects that are not possible elsewhere.  And it does not look as if we will stop learning anytime soon.  Our customers ensure this with each new, exciting, unusual order.

More than 500 various products annually, not counting yours.

It is amazing, even after decades, which ideas our customers develop. It makes us proud to be part of groundbreaking projects – wherever plastic is formed.

Like a classical glassblower. But with plexiglass. Thus unusual indeed.

Where tools no longer function, it starts to get interesting. That is when compressed air is used, instead of metal, to bring skylight domes with a diameter of up to one meter in form. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Facts

The enterprise

Vlay is its own enterprise, which, with a team of 16 specialists, has proven itself with the processing of plastics and light alloys in the Austrian market. The history of the enterprise is impressive and exemplary for the time of its emergence and for the cultivated understanding for the material ACRYLIC GLASS and its processing in all conceivable variations.
The founder of the enterprise, Adolf Vlay, was born in Radkersburg in 1938.  At the age of 22, the future company owner went abroad, and 14 years later Vlay Kunststoffverarbeitungs GmbH was founded in his homeland. The break-through came in 1978 with an innovative product: a lockable cassette stand.  Thousands of these cases were sold to gas stations, record companies and similar businesses. During this period, large customers such as Assmann, SGP, Puch and Palmers were also acquired.  The current managing director of the showcase of the manufactory, Helmut Rauch, joined the company in 1983.  He was instrumental in the development and modernization of the machinery.  Major investments were made in CNC machines, thus laying the foundation for another major division, the production of high-precision turned and milled parts for medical technology
